The Priory Guesthouse sits on the edge of the beautiful Yorkshire Dales opposite Middleham Castle. Middleham is known as the ‘Newmarket of the North’. 500 race horses live here and can be seen going up to the gallops in the morning – every day come rain or shine.
This magnificent building, dating back to the 1700’s is thought to be on the site of a priory and the stunning folly wall in the garden is likely to have been built from stone from the castle opposite. A three bedroom self catering Coach House sits at the back of The Priory which sleeps up to 8.
We have decorated the main house with a quirky mix of antiques and contemporary pieces providing luxury in a historic building. Deluxe rooms feature copper or roll top baths – bubble bath provided and all our beds have Egyptian cotton bed linen and have been described as being like a marshmallow by guests not wanting to get up!
Come and stay for a romantic break, a walking or sightseeing adventure, a dabble at one of the many race courses or even take over the whole house and have your own private house party. Both children and your furry friends are welcome.
Please note we have no ground floor bedrooms or bathrooms.
In addition to the beautiful bedrooms we have a large guest drawing room on the first floor. Sit and enjoy the view of the castle, pick up a book from the bookcase and just relax.
Outside garden space is rare in Middleham – we have a lovely lawned and courtyard area at the back which is shared with our self catering Coach House. Alternatively you can sit at the front of the house in the mornings with a cup of tea watching the horses go by whilst overlooked by the magnificent castle.
Breakfast is a leisurely affair served at a time to suit you. Chris has perfected his full English, using locally produced dry cured bacon, award winning sausages and the famous Doreen’s black pudding and scrummy Wensleydale eggs. Served along with fresh fruit, yogurt, cereals and fruit juice. Vegan, vegetarian and allergies can all be catered for. Your furry friend can have a sausage too if allowed.
Pack lunches and cream teas/sandwiches can also be provided with a little notice.
Middleham is lucky enough to have four pubs and eateries within 100 yards as well as three antique shops, a gift shop and a local general store for any forgotten items.
Sarah, Chris and the team are here to help you with everything you need and look forward to welcoming you.
